Antique silver chrismatory for holy oils from a liturgical collection, 19th century
Out of stock
A silver chrismatory, cylindrical in shape, with an engraved lid and a solid hinge. These small urns were used by priests to carry the holy oils in the rites of anointing and sacraments. It stands out for its sober and functional design, characteristic of liturgical pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The lid bears the inscription "OI" (Oleum Infirmorum), indicating its use for the Oil of the Sick, a blessed oil used in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, formerly called Extreme Unction. This sacrament grants spiritual and physical relief to those suffering from serious illnesses or who are in danger of death.
An ideal piece for collectors of religious antiques, lovers of ecclesiastical history, or for those seeking a devotional object with great historical value.
