This original Victorian mourning bracelet, dating from around 1880-1890, features two rows of faceted rose-red beads and black spherical beads. The carved birds, resembling swallows, are made of vulcanite and are attached to the bracelet with original riveted screws.
The design features a prominent centerpiece with a large red glass cabochon set in a rosette-shaped gold-tone metal setting, crafted in three dimensions with decorative motifs. It closes with a practical and secure metal tongue clasp.
The piece was restored by its previous owner to ensure its suitability for contemporary use: the thread has been carefully replaced, guaranteeing its durability without altering the historical design. A striking example of jewelry laden with symbolism, where the birds represent the soul and flight to the afterlife, characteristic of the visual language of mourning in the 19th century.
