Vesta or pocket matchbox made of hand-engraved sterling silver, with a ring for hanging. An English piece, signed and dated in Birmingham in 1905 by the famous and prestigious firm Cornelius Saunders & Francis Shepard.
These boxes were popular with gentlemen and ladies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and were worn on watch chains or chatelaine chains. The fine floral engraving and personalized initials attest to their status as elegant and personal accessories. A beautiful example of functional Edwardian metalwork.
