Original Yalalag cross made of silver and decorated with tiger's eye. Attention to details. Around 1970.
The Yalalag cross is a symbol of cultural syncretism between Spaniards and Zapotec indigenous people (19th century Oaxaca). For the Zapotecs, the cross represents the three planes of the Cosmos: the sky, center - where time and space are located - and the underworld, delimited by the four cardinal points.
Confidence, optimism and generosity are some of the feelings most present in the spirit and heart of Oaxacans, which are continually reflected by its artisans in various artistic expressions. There is a memorable cross that incorporates three feelings in its design: faith, hope and charity: The Yalálag cross; a jewel of extraordinary splendor with a unique message.
