This Chinese nail protector, known as a huzhi (护指), is a traditional piece of body jewelry with strong symbolic and social significance. Crafted from 925 sterling silver with meticulous filigree work, it features floral decoration in enamel and blue and red stones, along with openwork motifs, scrolls, and embossed finials.
This type of nail art was used in Imperial China by the aristocracy and members of the court to protect their long nails, a symbol of high status, refinement, and independence from physical labor. The enameled flowers represented longevity, delicacy, and feminine beauty.
Ideal as an ethnographic collection piece, as a stage prop or as a decorative element with a historical and sophisticated touch.
